Surely if you suffer from Asthma then you are probably aware of some of the common everyday things that can set it off. Pollen, cold air, smoke, pet dander, and even strenuous exercise are those things that can trigger an asthma attack but some interesting research shows that there may be other things that are triggering your asthma that you may not even be aware of. Some are very simple things and many are things that you can control but understanding what triggers an attack can help you to be less reliant on your inhaler.

Who would have suspecting that thunderstorms could be directly related to the number of asthma attacks reported soon after a thunderstorm strikes. Studies have shown an increase in the number of asthma patients showing up in emergency rooms soon after a thunderstorm. It is believed that the pollen count rises significantly after a thunderstorm. While one cannot prevent a thunderstorm, you can make sure you stay inside for awhile after one occurs.

Strong emotions can also be an asthma trigger. An asthma attack can be brought on by not only heavy crying but also by strong and prolonged laughter. Now this doesn't mean that you can never experience strong emotions but it is important to be prepared that these feelings do have the potential to create a tightening of your airways.

While asthma patients usually keep an inhaler nearby, its not pleasant having your air passages close and have to fight for each breath that is taken.

Asthma can be controlled by medications when a attack is creeping its head up, however, being aware of some of the triggers will let you avoid some of the pitfalls and possibly avoid an attack all together. Anything to avoid an asthma attack is worth trying. Those who have had asthma attacks know the fright it gives one to know your air passages are tightening and each breath is a struggle.
